Citroën Cars History
There are many people, who love the Citroen, but how many of them know about its history or why is the car called Citroen?
This car derives its name from its founder, André Citroën who was born in the year 1878. In the year 1905 he established his first company called “André Citroën & Cie”. From a young age, Citroën was impressed by the methods Henry Ford had adapted to manufacture cars. The year 1919 saw the first Citroën auto. It was the Type A and it was equipped with a four-cylinder engine that had a capacity of 1326 cubic centimeters.
Six different body styles were available for this car and they could be ordered directly from the factory. The price of this car included the lighting and the spare tire. 1921 saw the appearance of the first Citroën taxis on the streets of Paris and it was the talking point of the Paris Motor Show.
This car was made available to the public in 1922 and was available in just one color, lemon yellow.
Many years have passed since this and there have been many other Citroën models that have been released till date. Even now, Citroën is renowned for producing some of the most stunning and eye-catching models of cars, the new C5 being the latest entrant. When one looks back at their history, it is not difficult to gauge why the Citroën cars are so popular. One will be amazed to know that a Citroën expedition crossed the Sahara desert during end 1922, an amazing effort during that time.
Few people know about the `floating power’ engine that the Citroën had been equipped with since 1932. The C4 and the C6 were the first two cars to be equipped with this new engine that was mounted in a different way from the other engines. Unlike other engines that were directly bolted on the chassis, these engines were secured using rubber mounts. This helped to reduce engine vibrations to a great extent.
